Gourmet Aviator (CLOSED)
I bet you have noticed all of the food trucks popping up around town.
If you are like me, you are super excited about it! This week I tried
out Gourmet Aviator (FB Page) for the first time.
They were parked right by my work,
so I grabbed my lunch buddy Karen and headed over. I chatted a bit with
the guys inside. They were really nice and told me a little about the
food. From the second I saw the menu, I knew I was getting the Helipads
(tostones). The guys told me that they make the tostones themselves,
and since I am an honorary Latina, I was really eager to try them!
I got the Flying Fish Tacos, which are 2 tilapia soft tacos with cabbage slaw and sauce. The tacos were absolutely delicious! The amount of fish was just right
and it was cooked perfectly. Since sauce is their signature item, I
had high hopes for it…and they delivered! The sauce is what knocked
it out of the park. It had a little kick to it, but wasn’t overpowering.
I saw on their website that they sell their sauce, so I’m going to
have to go check that out soon. The Helipads were everything that I
hoped they would be…and more! For starters, they give you 5 large
tostones. I had to take some of them home (not that Ivan was complaining!)
The seasoning that they use on them was a good combination of spices
with a little bit of heat. They told me that they use this seasoning
on their fries as well. I would say that I will try those next time,
but I don’t know if I can ever pass on the tostones!
Karen got the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Helipads. She described the
pork as tender and juicy, and just like my meal, she said the sauce
was the best part. Hers was a sweet BBQ sauce, but not too sweet.
This was her first time having tostones, and I am very pleased to
say that she is now a fan!
Verdict – Loved it!! This was the best meal I have had all
week and I am anxious for them to come back! The menu is very diverse
and there really is something for everyone. And best of all, the prices
are just right. There is nothing worse than an overpriced meal, but
you have nothing to worry about here!
If you love food trucks as much as I do, check out
the Jax Truckies Facebook page. They update their page every day with
information about where the food trucks are.
