Azurea

Recently I was invited out to Azurea to taste some items off of their new spring menu. The restaurant is located inside of the One Ocean resort at Jax Beach and has an amazing view!

Our first course was Chilled English Pea and Mint Bisque with a Benton's Ham Crisp. They poured the soup right at the table. It was a very nice touch. The soup had a nice mild taste and the ham crisp gave it a little bit of a crunch.

Our second course was Hand Crafted Hudson Valley Foie Gras Tortellini. The dish consisted of tortellini, fava bean, cipollini onions, corn, heirloom tomatoes, Nueske's double smoked bacon, and local aquaponic Nasturium flowers. I am a sucker for anything pasta so I was looking forward to this dish. I will admit that I was a little nervous about the foie gras, but I'm up for trying new things so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did because everything on that plate was delicious! All of the veggies complimented the pasta and everything was very well seasoned.

The third course was Tellicherry Crusted Harris Ranch Natural Beef Tenderloin Medallions accompanied by wilted hydro cress and spinach, local harvest carrots (from the chef's garden!), white beach mushrooms, and natural jus. This course was also a winner. The beef was extremely tender and flavorful. I loved the glaze on the veggies and it went great with the beef.

Our fourth and final course was dessert, my favorite! It was Humbled Fog Fromage Blanc Cheese Cake with spiced caramel, brule naval orange, and citrus reduction. I'm not a huge cheesecake fan, but I loved this! The fromage gave it a milder flavor and the caramel was a nice addition. Absolutely delicious!

We also got a plate of assorted dessert goodies!

Verdict: Liked it!

The resort is beautiful and everyone I met was very helpful and kind. I thought the food was great and I can see myself visiting again for a special occasion. All of the food was well thought out and executed with care. We had the pleasure of talking to Chef Ted throughout the night and learned that he has a very extensive and interesting career. He has worked all over the US and trains the new chefs for their other resorts, so you know he is good at what he does!
