13 Gypsies

13 Gypsies is one of those places that has been on my to-try list for a while, but I never got around to going. I was pretty excited when a group of foodie friends invited me to go one night. Between the 8 of us we were close to ordering everything off of the menu, which is great since you can try everything without the commitment. But on the flip side, there is always that one dish that is so delicious it causes a serious case of plate envy. Well I had that dish, and it was spectacular!

The best dish of the night was the Risotto with house cured ham. This is, hands down, one of the best things I have ever eaten! It is super creamy and has a hint of saltiness from the ham. I wanted to lick the bowl. Honestly, I'm not sure how I stopped myself from doing just that.

The second best thing was the Crema de Queso. It is very light and airy, and very spreadable. It has a sharp flavor and is highly addictive. You have been warned.

Another favorite of the group was the Ravioli of Gorgonzola with crushed pistachios and creme fraiche. This dish gave everyone the tingles and we were all raving about it! The Gorgonzola inside of the ravioli was creamy and bursting with flavor. It was spectacular!

We also decided on a meat plate, the Mortadella. I'm not gonna lie, I put the queso on the bread, then the meat. It was pretty amazing.

For some reason I really wanted to try the mushrooms, so we went with the Mushrooms Sevilla with cream sherry sauce and goat cheese toast. Wow, this was pretty great! The sauce on the mushrooms had a gravy feel to it and the goat cheese toast was a perfect compliment. I could have eaten an entire entree of just this.

Our last course was really disappointing. We got the Roman Style Gnocchi. Not being familiar with Roman style, we thought we were getting a traditional type of gnocchi. What it really was, was more of a polenta than a pasta. Plus, the flavor was not appealing to anyone at the table.

Verdict: Loved it!
I was very pleased with my dinner and I'm mad at myself for waiting this long to try them. That risotto was the stuff dreams are made of, and I am still thinking about it. The restaurant is very small so reservations are highly encouraged. They do have 2 outside tables that are first come first serve, so if you forget you might still have a shot at getting a table. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items. I have found a new favorite place and I plan on visiting many more times!
