Obi’s Fillin Station
Last weekend we took a trip down to St. Augustine
Beach to visit Obi’s Fillin Station. (Full disclosure; the Obi’s are
friends of mine but I take my reviews very seriously and I will be
completely honest in my opinions.) I usually don’t
like to visit new restaurants right after they open, I like to give
them time to work the kinks out. But with Obi’s I was very excited to
try them out as well as offer some constructive criticism if need be. We
started our meal with some Frozen Apple Beer
(recommended by the owners). I was very intrigued, so I was really
excited to see how it tasted. It was like a big girl slushy with a very
smooth apple taste. It was very refreshing! My friends at the table all
tried it and also thought it was great.
We decided on the Cadillac Chips for our appetizer.
When they came out we were all amazed with how much bacon was on there.
We are a table of bacon fanatics so this was very well received. At
first a couple of people at the table didn’t
want to try them because of the bleu cheese, but I talked them into it.
They actually liked the bleu cheese in this because it wasn’t too
strong or overpowering. I was also very impressed that every single chip
was smothered with the toppings. You really feel
like you are getting your money’s worth with these.
I was in the mood to try something different so I
ended up getting the Volkswagen Bus for my entrée. The burger is a black
bean burger topped with avocado, bean sprouts and Obi sauce. I really liked how there were different
veggies in the patty as well. It made the flavors
more complex and helped to keep the burger from drying out. I also want
to mention that the fries are pretty awesome! They are a mix between a
steak fry and a regular fry, and the crispiness and seasoning were
perfect.
My husband got the Mustang Burger which had bacon and an onion ring on top. He was very
impressed by this burger. The meat was a very high quality and fresh,
while the onion ring had just the right amount of batter and he got a clean bite through it.
I was also super excited to see that they serve
pretzel buns!! (look in the background above) That is one thing that I have been saying that we need
down here for years! My friend got a burger with the pretzel bun and
said it was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to go back
and try it!
Verdict: Loved it!
There is so much to like about Obi’s. The location
is wonderful and the décor is a collection of car memorabilia (some
items from the owner’s private collection) and furniture made of actual
car parts! There is part of a vintage Mustang
by the front door, engines holding up the sinks in the bathroom, and
even a Snap On Tools ice chest! Growing up as a mechanic’s daughter, I
can certainly appreciate these little touches.
