Cantina Louie

Cantina Louie opened their second location in Jax Beach this week (the first location is in St. Augustine). I have been to the other one, so I was excited that we now have one to call our own. They are located just past Penman headed towards the beach. When we arrived, they were packed so we had to wait a little bit. That was fine with me because it gave me some time to check out the restaurant and the décor. They have an outdoor patio in addition to the inside seating, and the best part is that it’s smoke free. That’s my biggest issue with outdoor seating so that is awesome for me. The inside of the restaurant is pretty great. It has a Day of the Dead type theme with murals all over every wall.  Beautiful!
They have a pretty large menu, and I wanted it all. We decided on some Guacamole to start with. I was expecting a little ramekin, so I was excited to see that it was a large plate of guacamole instead!  It tasted very fresh and had chunks of tomatoes and red onion throughout.

We did end up getting an assortment of items to try everything – Sunrise Burrito, Enchiladas Supreme, Sunny Side Up Taco, and a Sriracha Shrimp Taco. The Sunrise Burrito was loaded with chorizo, eggs, fries, shredded Jack cheese, guacamole, Sriracha ranch, and covered in queso fundido. It was a huge burrito and was bursting with flavor. There were so many items in there, but they all worked.

The Enchiladas Supreme came with 3 enchiladas (beef, chicken, and cheese), topped with red sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. It was served with rice and re-fried beans. I loved everything about this dish. The enchiladas were delightful and the rice was perfect. Sometimes Mexican rice can get a bit bland, but not this rice. It has so much flavor to it. I also loved the enchilada sauce. It tasted remarkably authentic.

The Sunny Side Up Taco was also a hit. I almost didn’t get it since we ordered the burrito (the hubby’s choice), but I really wanted to try it. It is a chorizo taco with egg and cilantro. The egg is one where you have to break the yolk, so make sure you like runny eggs before you order this one. This taco was loaded with chorizo and it wasn’t too greasy.
The Sriracha Shrimp Taco had me a little scared, I’m not gonna lie. All my fears were confirmed when I took the first bite and my sinuses flared to life. My eyes immediately started watering and my sinuses had my nose running. If you like hot, this is your taco! The taste was out of this world, but I had to give it to my husband to finish since he has a higher heat tolerance than I do.

Verdict: Loved it!
We were also going to order some churros for dessert but we were stuffed. We will definitely get them next time we go, since I can see this being a regular place for us. The service was great and I liked the vibe of the place. The food was outstanding and the prices were reasonable. I think this will be a great addition to Jacksonville!
