Poe's Tavern

I have been hearing some buzz about Poe's Tavern at the beach, so we decided to check it out. Poe's is located in the old Sticky Fingers location on the corner of Atlantic and 3rd St. The place has been completely remodeled with stained glass windows and walls covered in Edgar Allan Poe pictures. The restaurant is somewhat dark with an orange glow (due to the windows), but the atmosphere is very laid back and casual.  We sat at a table by the window and started to peruse the menu. They have quite a few beer selections (at good prices), so we started off with Dos Equis Amber pints.
I apologize for the orange-y pictures, the windows messed me up!
Before I even sat down, I knew I wanted the Annabel Lee burger. This burger is a 1/2 lb burger with a Charleston Style Crabcake on top with fresh Remoulade Sauce. How can you go wrong with that?? When it came out, I swear my eyes did that cartoon pop out of your head thing. I sat there wondering how the heck I was going to take a bite when the burger/crabcake was that huge! Lawrence came around and gave me some advice to smash it down, so I did. I still had to unhinge my jaw, but I managed to take a bite and it was pure heaven! The burger was thick and juicy and very fresh tasting. The crabcake was light and flaky and the remoulade sauce was a welcome addition. I got the hand-cut fries with my meal and they were also spectacular. They were thin and crunchy with just the right amount of salt. I got ranch to dip them in.

Ivan opted for The Sleeper, which is a 1/2 lb burger with Roasted Garlic Blue Cheese and Buffalo Shrimp on top. Like my burger, his was also huge and piled high. Ivan is a pretty quiet eater, so I wasn't sure how he was enjoying it until he finished the burger, looked up at me and said "now that's what I call a #&%*!&^# burger!" That got a huge laugh out of me, partially because it was so unexpected, but also because it was the truth and I couldn't have said it better!

We don't usually get dessert because we are always stuffed, but I have heard good things about the Chocolate Midnight Cake so we got it to go. I couldn't help myself, so I sneaked a peek in the car, and was floored...that thing was huge!! It is a 3 layer Devils Food Cake with Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Chips, and White and Dark Chocolate Sauce. Yes, it was a good (maybe better) than it sounds! The cake is a bit dense and the ganache makes it really rich and delicious. I highly recommend giving it a try if you are a chocolate lover!

Our server Lawrence has only been working there for 3 days, but he was wonderful. He was very attentive and friendly. He came around to check on us and would talk to us about the food or about our lives. I really like servers like that. He made us feel welcome and made the already great experience even better!

Here is a corny quote that we came up with the describe the restaurant :)
To hell with the Raven, give me more!
